The two seater version of the BMW i8 plug in hybrid made its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show. The i8 Concept Spyder is just a concept but rest assure the production version is probably in the works.

The Spyder mirrors its closed roof sibling in design, lightweight carbonfiber construction and plug in hybrid powertrain. With a mid mounted three cylinder turbocharged 1.5 liter gasoline engine with 220hp and 300nm, its a rear wheel drive via a dual clutch transmission. Its 129hp electric motor drives the front axle and the internal combustion engine adn electric motor can run independently or at together. Combined power is at 349hp and a peak torque of 550Nm.

It has a good 5 second spring from 0-100 and has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. BMW announced in Beijing that all electric and plug in hybrids of its "i" sub brand shall receive the eDrive designation, denoting the BMW developed electric motor.
