This is Volkswagen's seventh iteration of the Golf GTI presented at today's Geneva Motor show. VW has applied the same evolutionary approach to the car adding more power, and shedding more weight thanks to its MQB platform.
The mk7 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (TSI) delivering 217hp (220PS) in base trim, and 227hp (230PS) in the newly available "Performance" grade.
The standard Golf GTI accelerates to 100km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 245km/h (152 mph), while the GTI Performance has a top speed of 250km/h (155 mph) and needs 6.4 seconds for the sprint to 100km/h (62 mph).
